Ms. Ari Alvarez

Loretto Volunteer

August 31, 2015

Given a choice between service sites in Washington D.C., New York City, and St. Louis, Ms. Alvarez chose St. Louis, more specifically, the Nerinx Community. Why? She felt drawn to the female centered environment and knew her position at Nerinx would challenge her personal growth. Ms. Alvarez hopes this year will provide her with opportunities to learn more about herself, grow in her spirituality, serve others, and learn. Ms. Alvarez recently graduated from St. Mary’s College in California, her home state, where she studied sociology and women and gender studies. While in college, she was very involved in social justice. She worked at a daycare for single mothers and survivors of domestic abuse, taught English in Cambodia, interned at a variety of nonprofits, and unionized campus workers. When not at work, Ms. Alvarez loves spending time with family and friends and attending concerts. If you see her in the hall, feel free to stop and chat about her social justice passions, give her a restaurant recommendation, or discuss her unique obsession with Kanye West.
