2017-2018 Class Officers
Without fail, every passing spring at Nerinx Hall brings with it new beginnings; one of these changes is class elections. Students cast their nominations at the start of April, and election campaigns were up and running soon after. The race was tight and the competition fierce, with posters plastered against every wall, candidates preparing their speeches, alliances made. After weeks of campaigning, the voters have cast their ballots and the results are in. The elected share their experiences of the process, tactics, and plans for the upcoming school year.
The most important part of elections, of course, is convincing voters that the candidate is qualified and worthy of the position. Of this part of the process, future senior officer Kennedy Morganfield shared “Campaigning gets easier as the years go on because your class is pretty aware of your strengths and talents by junior and senior year. That being said, I think your speech can seal the deal on whether or not your peers vote for you,” — and her win as senior class Secretary only affirms this insight.
Besides campaigning by word of mouth, many rely on slogans to catch peers’ attention. Caroline Leigh’s “Not only do I have 20-20 vision, but I have visions for the class of 20-20” undoubtedly helped her secure votes win sophomore year Secretary. Though some may find them “cheesy”, the use of catch phrases should never be underestimated.
All the work that the candidates put into this round of elections truly exemplifies the dedicated, hard-working girls Nerinx has to give to the world. Whether it be coating the walls with campaign slogans or spending all night writing a speech, the candidates put their all into this and it payed off.
